Untamed

- 8th September 2022

Katherine’s debut solo show was held at the Institute of Contemporary Arts.

Displaying 20 portraits of endangered species as her sitters, Katherine confronted the viewer with the environmental reality of our times. 10% of the proceeds raised from the sales of this artwork series were donated to Space for Giants.

“Capturing these animals in paint is one way that I feel I can have immediate control over a devastating reality”

“These animals may soon no longer be with us, but they can continue to be so in a small way in my paintings whilst also raising awareness for charities and policies that can help protect them.”

In traditional art historical fashion, exploring the power of portraiture and the role of sitter and artist, Katherine places these animals on a pedestal in the position of sitter. We are given an opportunity to get to know these animals, still and quiet before us, an option not afforded in the wild.

These paintings show not only the animal but also their home, which is now also home to a variant of human and environmental changes that now no longer make it as hospitable. Each portrait shows the dark truth of the environment and its inhabitants that once kept them safe. Through this exhibition, Katherine hopes to bring to light these changes and inspire action.

This is truly an exhibition of contrast with animals that look distinctly human in their emotional portrayal, strong in their stature yet classed as vulnerable or even functionally extinct in their survival status, and the explosion of thick colourful impasto strokes that clash on the canvas, bringing their stories to light.

Celebrating Britain’s Beauty

-23rd March 2023

The exhibition was held at Cafe Phillies in Kensington, a special place to Katherine, where her works were also showcased for the ensuing week. Katherine wanted to bring a little of England’s wild beauty into London to remind people that conservation can start at home.

This series consists of 10 paintings, a mixture of oils on canvas and smaller oil studies, all focusing on Britain’s natural world. With bright colours and bold strokes, Katherine’s exhibition open-heartedly captures “a snippet” of the beauty that is found on our small island.

Katherine’s creative process for Celebrating Britain’s Beauty was a little unexpected. She had already completed a large number of the pieces for the series when her parrot, Trumpet, passed away. Her grief at losing a beloved companion led her to destroy all of the existing works and start again from scratch. Somehow, this process brought with it a sense of joy and clarity that is tangible within each bright, bold artwork.

“I hope that when people look at my paintings, they feel pure joy, the beauty and the lightness of nature, because that is the joy that I feel every time I step outside into our natural world.”

Vulnerability Liberated

-15th June 2023

Katherine’s most recent exhibition was an exercise in vulnerability as an artist and a woman. Not only was it her first time showcasing purely figure works, but it was also the first exhibition held in Katherine’s own home. This deeply personal collection was a combination of oil paintings, sketches, and Katherine’s first-ever sculptures.

“I have always been fascinated by the intricacies of the human experience, particularly the constant interplay between positive and negative thoughts, the eternal struggle we as humans seem to deal with on a daily basis.”

After a number of years living in city-spaces like London and Paris, Katherine’s speech during the exhibition questioned “why conversations revolve primarily around career successes. I yearn for a space where we can openly discuss and embrace the negative aspects of life, encouraging a deeper sense of connection and understanding among one another.

”In a world that often encourages us to hide our imperfections and weaknesses, I invite you to confront them head-on, to recognize that vulnerability is not a flaw but a gateway to authenticity and growth.”
